Half-term means family portrait shoots! Especially October half-term, with autumn sunshine and a carpet of golden leaves.
Joanne had previously met me during one of my visits to photograph a Tumble Tots session. It was obvious whilst Sophia and Karis explored Bantock Park during our time together, that they are Tumble Tots children. Pretty much fearless, and very confident to explore.
The other thing that impressed me, and I said as much to Joanne, is the way she and Jayson place a lot of trust in both their children, again something I imagine partly built up through Tumble Tots. They let Sophia and Karis explore at their leisure, crawling and rolling around in the leaves on little adventures. Getting mucky during a visit to the park is one of the best parts of a day out when you’re a child. Joanne and Jayson didn’t fret over gloves and coats getting dirty, you could tell it was all about ensuring their daughters were having fun.
On family photo shoots it's all about capturing the children doing their thing, their own little personalities, rather than trying to get them to just sit and smile. So we started the photo shoot exploring around the park, playing in the autumn leaves, a spot of hide and seek, before heading to the playground for swings, slides, roundabouts, and climbing frames.
Sophia has an uncle Phil, so I was regularly called “uncle Phil” by accident which was extremely charming. Especially as after each time Sophia said it she realised what she’d done and offered a cheeky smile.
