How was the awesome Team Dignum formed?

Some say it was a flying saucer collision, others tell the tale of us meeting as extras during a police identity parade. The truth has actually been lost to the ages, but archaeological research suggests that The Dignums were originally formed back in 2010, when the call of a mutual friend’s summer bank holiday barbecue united them for the very first time.
Game on!
On our first date back in 2010 Phil was instructed to wear odd socks. Being someone that doesn't question peculiarity, he fulfilled Toby's unusual request, and just like the famous non-existent fairy tale about the prince who wears odd socks, they eventually moved in together and started a new life finding out all the weird and unnerving aspects of each others personalities.
Power up!
Team Dignum was 'officially' assembled in 2015, after a relaxed proposal next to a canal during a narrow boat holiday. Toby didn't even get up out of his camping chair. Not the type of canal that has shopping trollies and old bicycles floating around, but the beautiful Mon & Brec Canal in South Wales. Six months later an awesome ceremony was held at The Stone Barn in Gloucestershire, with as little pomp and circumstance as they could get away with. For those of you partial to a spot of light stalking, you can head over to our “The Dignums: Your wedding photography team” blog post.

Like those famous young ladies once sang "When Two Become One"; The Dignums have come together to form something a bit more special than the sum of their parts.

But what are those parts you ask? We're going to break it down for you, just like an eighties rap song.

“Hi! *waves* I'm Phil. I've always lived in the Midlands. I grew up in Sutton Coldfield, and now live in Wolverhampton after moving in with Toby. I'm currently in-between dogs, and secretly count down the days until it's time to rescue a new dog from the dogs’ home. My last dog Archie was my partner in crime, I was lucky enough to share eleven lovely years with him, the last few mainly consisting of him snoozing in his bed on my desk as I worked.

A lot of my playtime tends to be spent on my Xbox or Playstation. I can often be found playing multiplayer games with my mates, usually in a match of Overwatch (I tend to play support, I'm quite a fan of Mercy, Moira and Zenyatta) or maybe hiding as inanimate objects during a match of Prop Hunt on Call of Duty.

I'd pick carbs and sugar over alcohol. Offer me a piece of cake and I'll be putty in your hands. I've been know to polish off an entire packet of biscuits with a single mug of tea, whilst Septa Unella from Game of Thrones rings the 'Shame' bell. The tale of the speed I can devour an entire XXL pizza has gone down in legend. This is why I have to go to boot camp regularly.

Toby teases me for enjoying a spot Florence and the Machine or Robyn, and I enjoy a spot of electronica and synth too. When I'm at my desk editing you'll often find me with Netflix keeping me company in the background. I get exited when a new episode of Game of Thrones or Stranger Things is released. I'm still partial to watching animation too. I still enjoy cartoons, and anime. Particular favourites animated series are Adventure Time, and Rick and Morty. I'm a fan of superhero films after growing up on Marvel comic books as a kid. I also regularly rewatch Inception, Scott Pilgrim vs The World, and Sucker Punch.

Outside of portrait work, I do like a spot of macro and wildlife photography. If you head over top our Instagram feed you find the off photos from day trips featuring some macro photos of flowers and bug life, as well as animals such as wild birds or maybe from a trip to the zoo.

When I'm not taking photos or editing photos, I also a graphic designer too, which I've been doing ever since I finished education. I create lots of things like logos and website (all our site and branding is created by moi!), product and packaging design, to adverts and brochures. Sometimes it involves creating the odd illustration which is a nice change of pace.”

"Hello my lovelies! I’m Toby - originally from Cheltenham, but I moved to Wolverhampton where for many years I worked as a dentist! However, it got to the stage where I’d seen one molar too many, and I became an official part of The Dignums’ photography duo.

I’m the cat person in the relationship. Our cat Fatwans is grumpy, standoffish, quite bitey, and I love her dearly. She comes on little walks with me, trotting at my heels in the field in front of our house, until she decides she’s had enough, and refuses to budge any further. I respect her for that. She even has her own website, just Google "Fatwans" and she'll be the top hit.

What do I get up to in my spare time? Three times a week I get muddy with Phil and friends at a British Military Fitness boot camp in our local park, which I find absolutely hilarious. Come and join us! Seriously. You’ll be made very welcome.

Once the mud has been showered off and I’m suitably dressed, I can indulge my other passion: games and quizzes in the pub! Our local has got used to the sight of a bunch of us playing Quirkle, The Resistance, Bananagrams, or even old-fashioned Solo Whist over a few beers. Most Sunday evenings we take part in the quiz; every week thinking of a new and usually slightly risqué team name. Sometimes I even get to host the quiz myself!

I’m a science nerd, and love my gadgets and tech. We’ve got some cool gear we can bring to your wedding: off-camera flash for sprucing up the speeches and some awesome dance floor shots, and even a PixelStick for some really cool light painting in the evening, if there’s the chance. I’m really interested in long exposures at night, and astro-photography, and will happily give you a tour of the night sky, and point out and explain why my favourite star is Betelgeuse.

My music taste is electronic and a little bit weird, with plenty of bleeps and bloops thrown in. It’s great discovering new stuff on Spotify, and if I had to choose between our TV and Sonos system, the telly would be in a skip before you could say “Florence And The Machine”. (I have no idea why Phil enjoys them. I’m pretty sure Florence’s voice can only be truly appreciated by cats, dogs, and bats). If I do sit down to watch a movie or some TV I enjoy sci-fi the most, with the odd guilty pleasure of a disaster movie. I'm partial to Sherlock and Doctor Who. No horror though, not unless you want to hear me scream like a teenage girl."
What are Toby's main components?
Here are the ingredients that make up the the being know as Toby. There's plenty more in the mix such as home-made ginger beer, reading ghost stories, and terrible dad jokes, but distill him down and you'll mostly be left with this:

Cats
55.00
