"Oh wow! They are absolutely amazing, thank you so much! I can't even begin to tell you how over the moon we both are that we picked you guys as photographers! Everyone, and I mean everyone thought you were both beyond fantastic, and it's just amazing that you managed to be in exactly the right place at the right time to get such brilliant photos!
I also don't even know how to tell you how completely overwhelmed I was that you hung around so long after what has to have been an exhausting day. It was so unexpected and so utterly fantastic of you both that I'm running out of suitable adjectives. Let's just say, you are incredible human beings and leave it at that before I start crying.
Lots and lots of hugs, Carrie-anne (and Olly) xxx"
If, like me, you are old enough to remember “The A-Team” on TV, you’ll recall the character played by George Peppard, “Hannibal”, and his catch-phrase:
“I love it when a plan comes together!”
That’s what came to my mind last weekend, when Phil and I were lucky enough to be part of Carrie-anne and Olly’s amazingly well-planned wedding day.
Carrie-anne pulled off a wonderful feat of organisation, arranging her own wedding reception in the grounds of Himley Hall near Dudley. This hadn’t been done at Himley before, but Carrie-anne told us how helpful and accommodating the staff there were. She’d pulled together a selection of really great suppliers to make her wedding celebrations extra-special, so I’m going to try and name-check as many as I can in this blog.
She got ready at home, with elegant make-up from Preeti Bains, and a stunningly beautiful dress from The Dressing Rooms in Halesowen, with colourful shoes from Irregular Choice. An old Volkswagen Beetle from Strawberry Field VDubs had been arranged to convey her to Dudley Register Office, but unfortunately it broke down on the way to pick Carrie-anne up! 😱
Luckily there was a back-up vehicle: a lovely VW camper van, and this meant that Carrie-anne could travel together with her mum and dad. Sometimes, perhaps, these things happen for a reason!
Bright sunshine was there to greet us at Dudley Priory: the impressive setting for the Register Office ceremony. We’re thankful to registrars Tara and Chris, who made us welcome, and were very accommodating. Olly had time to mill around with guests outside in the sun, and have his buttonhole pinned in place by his mum, before making his way inside to await the arrival of his bride.
Moments later, the impromptu VW Camper pulled up with Carrie-anne and two very proud parents inside. It was then their turn to enter the genteel Priory Suite inside the Register Office, for Carrie-anne to walk up the aisle. It was a lovely ceremony with the sun streaming through the windows creating wonderful light to illuminate the exchanging of vows, rings, and that first kiss.
Back outside, we got everyone surrounding the newlyweds for a huge confetti cloud! Then we rattled through the group shots with the invaluable aid of Carrie-anne’s mum Alison, who put her fine ability of being able to do the fingers-in-mouth whistle to good use. I can’t do that whistle myself - I’m jealous! Phil spirited Carrie-anne and Olly into the Priory Park grounds for some portraits, while the rest of us made the short trip over to Himley for the party!
We were greeted there by the fruits of Carrie-anne and friends’ hard work: a fab marquee from Berkshire Marquees, beautifully decorated by Ivy Designs and with loads of thoughtful decorative touches, including stylish stationery by Child Paper Co, and signs and menus from Ivy Designs
. Pimms was being served - the English summer wedding essential. But there was also an amazing DIY gin bar, with a huge selection of gins, tonics, spices, fruits and flavours for everyone to create their own perfect G&T in very large glasses!
A word now about the food, much of which was provided by Mango Lounge Windsor. These caterers provided delicious canapés in the afternoon, with a full three-course Indian banquet in the evening. Carrie-anne insisted that Phil and I got stuck in too, and I definitely wasn’t going to argue! It really was some of the best Indian food I’ve ever tasted; even now as I type these words, my mouth is watering from thinking about it.
The wether stayed kind to us all day, meaning guests could mingle outside in the green grounds of Himley’s “Capability” Brown-landscaped park. There were outdoor games to play, heel protectors provided, blankets for when the temperature dropped, even posh loos from Sweet Pee! Everything had been thought of.
The evening sound system was provided by Higher Class DJs, who MCd the cutting of a really great cake from Gail’s Cake Pantry before providing the music for not one, but three first dances! Parents got involved too, which was great fun. There was plenty of the usual fun wedding music, and lots of “screwing in the lightbulbs” to some stomping bhangra tracks as well! I love a busy and energetic dance floor, and switch up my camera gear to wrist-strap and compact lens, so I can get right inside all the action!
Massive respect to Carrie-anne and Olly, and thanks from The Dignums boys for making us part of your fantastic day. Here’s your preview from your photographic A-Team! ❤️
We'll leave it to your to decide which A-Team characters Phil and I are 😜
