Pre-wedding engagement shoot with a game of thumb wars at Himley Hall Park, Dudley

"Could not recommend highly enough. We were both apprehensive about photographs and the pre-wedding shoot, but we were instantly put at ease. Phil and Toby made us feel comfortable, they are warm, amusing, and genuinely interested in both of us as a couple, and our wedding day. After 8 years I finally have some great photos of me, and my partner and we haven't even got married yet!
Thank you again for making us feel so comfortable, and for giving us some of the most beautiful pictures we've ever had of us as a couple."
We met up with Beth and Shel recently to talk through their plans for their wedding day, over one coffee (for me, Toby), and three teas. They’re getting married later this summer at Gorcott Hall in Redditch, and their plans for the day sound great.
Shel and Beth are such a relaxed and happy couple, and they made it clear they just wanted us Dignums to do our usual photographic thing on the day they tie the knot. Chatting to them, we discovered that Beth is a very talented seamstress, and is making her own dress, and her bridesmaids dresses too! I’m in awe of this: Phil and I decided to make the bunting for our own wedding, and learning how to sew together simple triangles with a sewing machine was hard enough! Expect lots of detail shots of Beth’s amazing dress from the day!
Teas and coffee drank, we headed outside to have some fun practicing with our cameras. Himley is a great spot for a pre-shoot. There’s loads of space to get that weird first five minutes of photos out of the way. Beth and Shel settled in really quickly, and we wandered past the grandeur of Himley’s gatehouse, before heading on a stroll around the lake, This makes for some great shots with the water in the background and among the weeping willow branches. The geese and swans behaved themselves in the background!
We’ve recently discovered a hidden gem at Himley - two concrete tunnels that lead to a tucked-away bit of street art! If you’ve been following our Insta and blogs, you’ll know that the Dignum boys can almost call Digbeth with all it’s great graffiti our second home. Shel and Beth were very trusting when we led them into these dark tunnels, but nobody got murdered, and we were rewarded at the other side with some really colourful contrasting shots, and a spontaneous game of thumb wars. Beth won the battle, but to be fair to Shel her two handed tactics were dubious at best. He was too much of a gentleman to call Beth out on it.
Here’s a little selection from Beth and Shel’s pre-shoot gallery.
