Today is a very special day for a rather special couple. October 6th 2019 marks the very first wedding anniversary of Sophie and Jon.
As you can imagine we get to go to a lot of weddings, and every one stands out for it’s own reasons. When I look back a year on Sophie and Jon’s wedding, it’s family and friendships that defined their special day. We’re lucky that lots of like minded couples seem to search us out, find us, and book us to be their photographers. Sophie new a couple of our previous brides who’d very kindly sang our praises to her. Sophie took a look at our Facebook page and loved our photography, so got in touch, and they pretty quickly snapped us up for their wedding day.
If you saw our blog post a while bag featuring their pre-wedding shoot
, you’ll have already read about how quickly we hit it off. I’m very glad that Toby and I must be getting our marketing right, as the photos we show, and the message we put out there catches the eye of some fantastic people. Often couples that after spending a very short time with them, it often feels like we’ve known them for ages. When that same experience extends to the couples’ family members, then we consider ourselves extra lucky and humbled.
As I spoke about the lovely Sophie and John in their pre-wedding shoot blog, let me tell you about the lovely lady who is Sophie’s mum; Janet. I’m pretty sure Janet and I clicked within thirty seconds of me arriving at bridal preparations. I’m a massive mummy’s boy as it is, but Janet and I both seemed to have the same cheeky twinkle in our eyes, and the banter was great from the get go. Janet by her own omission wears her heart and personality on her sleeve, and she’s all the more wonderful for it. She certainly is an inspiring lady.
Then there’s Sophie’s dad Nigel. My first meeting with Nigel was when he entered the room to see his daughter in her wedding dress for the first time. He spotted me with my camera ready to capture his reaction. See looked straight down my lens and gave me a cheeky smile of recognition. There was no doubt this was Janet’s husband. Nigel came up to Toby and I while we were having a snack and taking a quick break whilst everyone was eating the wedding meal. It was the first chance we’d been able to have a proper chat, and I remember being struck by his warmth and earnestness. It was easy to tell that he really wanted us to feel part of the day, and we felt especially welcomed in to the family.
It probably goes without saying that this theme of close and welcoming friends and family ran through the entire day. Including Jon’s own lovely mother Julie, and Sarah Sophie’s maid of honour who features in one of my very favourite photo’s from the day (look out for some selfie magic) to name just a couple of others.
Highlights from the day include working alongside the lovely Michelle G MUA who helped Sophie’s bridal prep be as laughter filled as it was. Some stand out speeches by the groomsmen accompanied by some hilarious powerpoint slides, against all the weather odds being treated to a lovely sunset, and some shenanigans with our Pixel Stick at the end of the night. One of the important ingredients when it light painting is timing. A couple of times I missed my queue to run around with the pixel stick painting in the colour. This related in some great out takes as folks stuck a pose for us, but without me quite getting the timing right.
I want to take the opportunity to quickly say a thank you to Sophie and Janet for becoming two of our most wonderfully prolific social media stalkers. They never fail to send us an abundance of love in the form of many likes and shares. Ladies, it’s very much appreciated and I’ll be messaging you privately as I’d like to offer you a little something to say thank you.
Sophie, Jon, however you’ve been spending your first anniversary the Dignum Boys hope you’ve had an amazing day, and here’s to many more years of married fun and laughter for you both.
